UCSIA - Manresa Room, Koningstraat 2, 2000 Antwerp, Belgium

In February 2025, UCSIA will launch a new winter school on European solidarity. The focus of this first edition is migration. In the build-up to this winter school, we organise a lunch discussion (in English) led by Pascal Debruyne with Nathalie Dens, Milena Belloni, Benoît Dhondt and Helga Corvers in which we explore our panelists' utopian and dystopian visions on migration.

Migration Challenging Solidarity? Utopian and Dystopian Visions

UCSIA organises a lunch discussion (in English) on a topic that goes to the heart of our work and the Solidarity Academy.

UCSIA has many reasons to celebrate:

  • We are launching the Solidarity Academy, a new project for the coming years.
  • We will present a brand new house style.
  • And, on top of that, we may welcome you in our beautifully renovated building.

You are cordially invited!

The first UCSIA Winter School on European solidarity

One of its flagships will be a new winter school, which UCSIA is organizing in close collaboration with our partners from the University of Antwerp. The theme of the winter school is ‘European Solidarity in the Making’.

During the morning sessions, students will attend expert lectures, while in the afternoon they will discover what is happening ‘in the field’ and reflect on their experiences. The topic of the winter school might change every edition. We will start next year in February 2025 with a focus on migration.

Panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities of migration

To introduce the theme of the winter school, we have set up a panel with experts from various disciplines to talk with them about their visions of the challenges and opportunities of migration.

Based on their research, activities and engagement, they will reflect on what they see as their biggest fears and greatest sources of hope. What are their utopias? And yes, what are their dystopias? By organizing this panel, we want to stimulate an open, intellectually enriching debate on one of today’s major challenges.

Due to its extent and impact, migration might induce a feeling of resignation. But without wanting to minimize the huge challenges, there are also many evolutions and opportunities that offer inspiration, trust and guidance.
