The wealthy merchant\u2019s son who cast his expensive clothes at his father\u2019s feet chose a life without possessions, devoted to serving the poorest. She specializes in medieval religious, intellectual, social and political history. Her research and teaching focus on popular religion, political theology, criminal justice, medieval Italian communes and in particular the ways in which the emerging universities influenced the theo-political institutions of medieval Latin Christendom.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-828d38f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"828d38f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In 2012, Neslihan \u015eenocak (Columbia University) published the critically acclaimed book <a href=\"https:\/\/cornellpress.cornell.edu\/book\/9780801450570\/the-poor-and-the-perfect\/#bookTabs=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">The Poor and the Perfect<\/a>. The book shows how the quintessential Franciscan virtue of simplicity gradually gave way to learning, while study came to be considered an integral part of evangelical perfection.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-550f54b e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"550f54b\"
