Enchantment and disenchantment<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Vitullo argues that the Church’s language about technology moves in cycles of enchantment<\/em> and disenchantment<\/em>: technology is celebrated as a gift of God when it serves ethics and community, and challenged once it exceeds moral limits.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

That tension runs from Rerum Novarum<\/em> (1891), through Laudato Si’ (2015), to Leo XIV’s brand-new encyclical, which explicitly echoes his namesake, Leo XIII.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

On 27 August 2026, Alessandra Vitullo (Sapienza University of Rome) gave a public lecture at the UCSIA Summer School on the way the Catholic Church has engaged with new communication technology for over a century.<\/p>\n
