From research to encounter
The exhibition Connected in Care emerged as an offshoot of the SOLIGION research project (Solidarity Inspired by Religion).
SOLIGION
Between 2020 and 2024, SOLIGION examined how socially engaged organizations inspired by religious and philosophical traditions shape care and solidarity today, and how they relate to the welfare state.
The research revealed a rich and often overlooked landscape of initiatives in which faith, worldview and social engagement intersect – not as opposites of public care, but often as a valuable complement to it.
About the exhibition
The photo series translates these research insights into personal stories and images, making the abstract study tangible. The photographs reveal the people behind this solidarity: real individuals, with stories that resonate.
Photographer Jelle Vermeersch followed individuals and communities committed to offering closeness to those in need. He captured moments in which faith and worldview become tangible through acts of compassion and solidarity.
The photographs show a rich diversity of religious traditions, but above all what people share with one another: care for the vulnerable, empathy, and the desire to build a warmer society together.
