Throwback to the opening of the UCSIA House

On 14 November, we celebrated the opening of the new UCSIA House with you, a milestone we look back on with great pride.

The event was festively kicked off and interwoven with music by the Antwerp-based socio-artistic company Tutti Fratelli. This was followed by a warm welcome by deputy director Erik De Bom, who also presented the new corporate identity. President Bea Cantillon introduced the new UCSIA flagship project: ‘The Solidarity Academy’.

The ensuing panel discussion elaborated on that theme. Karine Moykens (president general assembly UCSIA), Orry Van de Wauwer (director Pax Christi) and Jan Van den Nieuwenhuijzen (president AUHA) shared their views on solidarity in difficult times. The insightful questions were posed by moderator and philosopher Martha Claeys.

Provincial Marc Desmet sj gave a final inspirational speech. He cited in it the unique bond between UCSIA and the Jesuits.

Finally, we honoured Professor Luc Braeckmans for the follow-up of the renovation project. His effort was indispensable for this magnificent result.

The last musical notes of the opening ceremony came from Tutti Fratelli.

Afterwards, guests had the opportunity to explore the building. We heard many positive comments about the modern design with an eye for the authentic elements from the former warehouse, as well as the beautiful modern conference rooms. Meanwhile, the konventa team served them delicious snacks and drinks.

It was a successful and inspiring kick-off to a new and exciting chapter for all of us. We hope to meet you plenty more times in our beautiful location.
