In this webinar, Sander Rietveld, journalist and author of Nieuwe kruisvaarders. De heilige alliantie tussen orthodoxe christenen en radicaal-rechtse populisten (‘New Crusaders. The Holy Alliance Between Orthodox Christians and Radical Right-wing Populists’) will examine the shared ideas of Dutch orthodox Christians and radical right-wing politicians. Following this presentation, Vincent Scheltiens, researcher and author of Extreemrechts. De geschiedenis herhaalt zich niet (op dezelfde manier) (‘The Extreme Right. History Doesn’t Repeat Itself (In The Same Way)’) will elaborate on the parallels and trends that can be discerned in Flanders. CD&V politician Bianca Debaets will then discuss the appropriation of the Christian tradition by the radical right from a Christian Democratic perspective. In doing so, she will draw from her experience with ideologies and philosophies of life in the metropolis.
