Islam at school

Over the past few decades, the number of pupils with an islamic background in Flemish and Dutch schools has been increasing. In Flanders, this is shown via the increasing enrollment of pupils in islam classes in public schools. In the Netherlands, islam schools are on the rise. During this symposium, organized by the journal Religie & Samenleving, UCSIA, Centre Pieter Gillis (University of Antwerp) and the Faculty of Religion and Theology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, we examine education in and on islam in both contexts.
