An Economy of Trust
Book launch (in Dutch)
“Without trusting each other, life is almost impossible,” writes Luk Bouckaert in ‘An Economy of Trust’, the new publication of the Chair Economy of Hope and Streven Vrijplaats. Bouckaert continues, “even our professional activities rely in part on relationships of mutual trust.” As everyone realises, trust is also the lubricant of our economy.
Without the customer’s trust in the company when he buys, without the trust in your boss, without the trust in our money, the economy does not work. And yet a healthy dose of distrust is often indispensable too. How can we ensure a balance between trust and distrust in the economy? What does history teach us about the importance of trust in economics? What are the building blocks for an economy of trust today? What should be taken into account to enable trust in a digital economy? In what ways does climate change also call us to trust?
These questions about a fragile and tested trust in economy, among others, form the starting point for this evening.
