ELP Graduation Fall 2021 Cohort

Saturday 19 February 2022

The European Leadership Programme is an initiative of the Jesuit European Social Centre. It is a fellowship for about 15 master students per semester, who participate to develop their leadership skills in international policy and advocacy. The programme offers a comprehensive formation experience, consisting of a semester-long internship.

The programme’s final aim is to help reform the spiritual, social and political life in Europe, reorienting it towards a quest for the common good, in line with the long Jesuit tradition in forming leaders to change the world.

UCSIA supports the programme by hosting the academic paper presentation session before a jury at the University of Antwerp and co-organizing the graduation ceremony. Since last year it also offers a traineeship to one of the fellows.

For this sixth graduation ceremony Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ, Archbishop of Luxembourg and President of COMECE (European Commission of Bishops of the European Union), will present the keynote address.

Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ was born in Differdange (Luxemburg) and ordained a priest in Brussels (Belgium) on 21 April 1990. Between 2008- 2011 he became the Rector of the Jesuit Community and Vice-Rector for General and Student Affairs at Sophia University in Tokyo. On 12 July 2011, Pope Benedict XVI nominated Father Jean-Claude Hollerich SJ Archbishop of Luxembourg. Later in October, he was consecrated bishop for the Archdiocese of Luxembourg. Between 2014-2018 he was President of the Conference of European Justice and Peace Commissions and since September 2017 he is the President of the CCEE Commission for the youth. In 2018 he was elected President of COMECE and a year later Pope Francis elevated him to the dignity of Cardinal.
