The Fractured Heart of Europe
festival of art, literature and film on 18 May 2022 (in Dutch)
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the start of the Bosnian wars marking the independence of Bosnia-Herzegovina, the Department of History of the University of Antwerp and UCSIA are pleased to give a voice to authors, film directors and artists, who interpret the tragic history and the complex current events of Bosnia.
The Bosnian society, in which Muslims, Catholics, Orthodox Christians and other denominations used to live together, was brutally thrown apart. In its place came a complex political constellation in which ethnicity rules. This challenges all who cherish the ideal of a tolerant, multireligious and multi-ethnic Europe.
A festival of art, literature and film about (returning to) Bosnia-Herzegovina with:
- authors Lana Bastašić and Faruk Šehić
- documentary directors Julie Biro and Kemal Pervanić
- visual artist Aida Šehović
- historians Marnix Beyen and Heleen Touquet
- journalist Stefan Blommaert
