How does Europe help the Belgian recovery?

webinar (in Dutch) on 10 September 2021

The European institutions reacted to the socio-economic shock caused by the COVID-19 pandemic by designing new financial support instruments, accessible to its member states. These new financing instruments, such as SURE and NextGenerationEU, should help member states to absorb the socio-economic shock, but also to support the economic recovery. NextGenerationEU is a 750 billion euro stimulus package, accessible to the member states under favourable and clear conditions. Importantly, the funds should contribute to a more social and green Europe.

In this U-turn webinar, we discuss the importance of these new financing instruments for the Belgian and Flemish recovery. We welcome Xavier Vanden Bosch, European Semester Officer at the representation of the European Commission in Belgium. He will present the design and implementation of NextGenerationEU. Anton Muyldermans, cabinet member of the Secretary of State for Economic Recovery and Strategic Investments, will reflect on the importance of European support mechanisms for the Belgian recovery. Professor Koenraad Debackere, chair of the Flemish economic recovery committee, will outline the choices behind the Flemish economic recovery plan.
