Solidarity versus Poverty
Does the Pandemic Lead to a New Social Contract?
The corona crisis has an unequal impact on us. Isolation is hard for the elderly. Quarantaine is especially difficult for households without garden or balcony. Online schooling is impossible for those without laptops. The lower educated have higher chances at getting ill and losing their jobs.
The pandemic shed light on several societal strengths: the spontaneous solidarity and the robust social protection. However, vulnerabilities also became visible.
Will the crisis lead to a new social contract that is able to win the battle against poverty?
